The film boasts of a major star cast with the likes of Oscar-winner Rami Malek, Malcolm and Marie actor John David Washington, The Queen's Gambit star Anya Taylor-Joy and Suicide Squad veteran Margot Robbie.
This is Swift's first big movie role, but she has previously been a part of smaller roles much like her stint in the 2019 musical film Cats. Collider reported that the Instagram celebrity gossip account Deuxmoi was the first platform to share that the Evermore singer would be involved in the upcoming project. The film is backed by 20th Century Studios and New Regency, and is Russell's first film in seven years, since Joy, starring Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper.
Taylor Swift also starred in two documentaries which were released in 2020. The first is a Netflix featurette focusing on her life as Miss Americana, and the second is titled Folklore: The Long Pond Studio Sessions, which the singer has directed and produced.
