A Bathing Ape, known widely as BAPE is celebrating their 25th anniversary in a major way. The international streetwear brand is teaming up with their most influential collaborators for the official BAPE HEADS show in December.
The concert will feature sets from Kid Cudi, Pusha T, Wiz Khalifa, Big Sean, Lil Yatchy and DJ-comedian Cipha Sounds. All of the artists have shared their love for BAPE in their respective careers like Pusha T and Pharrel’s strong and influential alliance with founder Nigo in the early aughts. Thanks to the alliance, others in the game took heed like Young Jeezy, famously Lil Wayne, Kanye West, and Drake.
The brand’s connection to Pharrell also helped create the producer’s Ice Cream and Billionaire Boys Club clothing brands. Later collaborations include Cudi’s special tee in 2009 and Tyler The Creator modeling the brand in 2011. Speaking with Hypebeast in 2011, Cudi shared his love for the brand.
“It was a dream come true to be able to work at the store I dreamed of shopping in one day,” he said for appearing in their winter catalog. “Over a couple of years, I might have applied at the store 3 or 4 times before the last attempt that got me hired. I fell in love with BAPE because of their color selection and artwork. I love the style of their cartoons.”
The event takes place Dec. 6 at the Hulu Theater at Madison Square Garden in New York.
