Miles Teller Did All The Flight Scenes Himself Without CGI And With The Right Speed

Miles Teller trained so hard for his role in Top Gun: Maverick. He learned how to fly a real fighter jet, and he also received training in dogfighting tactics. In addition, Teller also worked on his physical fitness so that he could look like a fighter pilot. This training was surely so intense, but it was all evidently worth it when the movie came out.

When it comes to CGI and green screens in Top Gun: Maverick, the movie had none! In an interview with Men's Journal, Miles said: “There is no green screen in a Top Gun movie. Every shot, every stunt, was the result of the work, the real sweat, that we all put into it. The production was over the course of a full year, which was definitely the longest shoot I have ever been a part of."

Teller spent three months of intensive flight training prior to the movie. He received a pilot's license so that he can fly in the movie. In order to make sure that he is able to perform all the necessary stunts, Teller received flight training from some of the best pilots in the world. He was also working closely with the film's stunt coordinator to make sure that everything goes off without a hitch.

In the beginning, he spent some time to get comfortable with the crafts, and also to build his G-force tolerance, this was because all of the aerial shots in the movie were shot practically. He first trained in a Cessna craft and moved to an Extra 300, a single-prop aerobatics craft. When he got comfortable with this, he started flying an L-39 Albatros.

Teller described his first flying experience to Men's Journal saying: "Right off the bat, I am flying this fucking plane myself with The Patriots in formation with three other planes around, which just felt insane. I had one jet right above me, so close, and then planes on both wings, then we did a loop while holding that formation. I was holding the stick, and I landed the plane as well."

With all of this training, Teller did not only manage to fly the plane, but he also managed to give an amazing, and realistic performance. He did his stunts and he even had speed!
